I started this one-woman business three years ago. I was waiting with my husband and one year old son in a surgical reception room after my stage 2B breast cancer diagnosis. On the receptionist’s desk, I saw angel multitudes of every shape and size: figurines, cards, mobiles, prints, books, and more. Successful post-surgery patients had heaped all of these angels behind, on top of, and around the receptionist’s desk. It was a perfect reminder of the help that is always available to me. Along with family and friends, this divine assistance got me through cancer treatment. I decided to paint and design reminders of this marvelous help.
I have worked as an artist and designer for over 20 years. I use the traditional mediums of watercolor and oil paints to create spiritual designs and patterns. I create all artwork and products at my gallery and gift shop (Opened in December of 2018) at 2080 Hayes St. in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district. The spirit of living in this vibrant city is a source of endless inspiration.
My goal for Melinda Gail is to remind women that they are spiritual beings and are surrounded by spiritual help at all times.
I met my husband James - the resident candle-pourer and crystal charm maker - in fashion school in San Francisco. His background in the printing industry compliments my background in art and graphic design. He has his own shop above mine at 2080 Hayes St.
A portion of all sales go to breast cancer charities - BAYS (Bay Area Young Survivors) in San Francisco and Cleaning For a Reason - an organization that provides free house cleaning for cancer patients.
